Abstract
This paper addresses the lack of methodological transparency in remote sensing-based mapping of irrigated agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa. We develop a comprehensive reporting framework to systematize and evaluate modeling choices across different studies. The framework covers seven critical classification steps, highlighting how different methodological decisions impact results and reproducibility. Our findings reveal insufficient reporting practices in eight crucial domains, suggesting a need for greater awareness among researchers about how their methodological choices affect the accurate representation of irrigated agriculture, particularly for smallholder farmers.
